Required Biosafety Training
The Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) requires annual training for faculty, staff, and students working in laboratories with infectious agents (human, animal or plant) and any use of recombinant DNA (rDNA). The PI is responsible for maintaining training records for all laboratory personnel working in the primary laboratory approved for use in the BUA.
How to Fulfill Training Requirements
Training can be completed through the following methods:
- Online Training Modules: Online trainings are offered and tracked through BioRAFT. Please visit BioRAFT to see a full course directory.
- Lecture-style or in-person Training: Seminar-based training courses can be scheduled by contacting the Biosafety Officer.
- Job/Task Specific Training: The PI or designee can conduct training sessions that cover both generalized biosafety level training and specialized training for specific hazards in the lab. This includes:
- Safe handling and disposal of biohazardous materials
- Necessary containment measures and precautions to prevent exposures
- Handling of sharps and medical waste
For detailed training content, refer to the Biological Safety Manual or contact the Biosafety Officer.
