Each summer, through a partnership with the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services, deaf and hard of hearing high school students attend an ACT Academy on the Auburn University campus. Students receive instruction in ACT test strategies, reading comprehension, vocabulary building, and strategies for problem-solving in mathematics. All classroom and campus activities are facilitated by American Sign Language interpreters or real-time captioning. The camp expands Special Projects and Initiatives' involvement in working for the inclusion of students with disabilities by further building on the Alabama Alliance for Students with Disabilities in STEM (AASD-STEM) program funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF).
