The Auburn University College of Nursing recognized the graduating class of 2023 during the pinning ceremony. Nearly 90 students graduated this spring, including 6 RN-BSN students.
The pinning ceremony is a nursing tradition that marks the students’ transition into professional nursing. It is a time-honored tradition that celebrates their hard work and dedication to the profession. Graduates read aloud a pledge at the close of the ceremony to mark their commitment to their chosen profession and their oath to serve their patients with integrity, care and respect.
The following awards were presented at the ceremony on May 6, 2023:
President’s Award was presented to Chase Gill. The university level award is presented to a student who possesses outstanding leadership, citizenship, character and promise of professional ability.

The nursing students when voting for the recipient of this award consider the question: “If I were a patient, who in my class would I want to be the nurse caring for me?”
The Nightingale Pledge was led by Jordan Brown. The pledge is a symbolic transition and special opportunity for nursing students as they end their studies, to celebrate their achievements and begin their careers as nurses. Giving the pledge publicly before peers, family and friends signifies the importance of the role and how seriously graduates will take their job as a nurse.
