Sruti Sanghani will serve as graduation marshal for the College of Nursing at the Fall 2025 commencement. A recognition of academic achievement and leadership, student marshals are often chosen based on their outstanding academic performance, leadership qualities, and involvement in the campus community. A graduation marshal embodies the success and values of their graduating class, representing their peers during the commencement ceremony.

Sanghani has demonstrated remarkable dedication, compassion, and commitment throughout her academic and professional journey. Her story is one of perseverance, lifelong learning, and a genuine desire to serve others — qualities that have earned her admiration of peers and faculty alike.

Upon receiving news of the distinction, Sruti Sanghani expressed sincere appreciation and noted her astonishment. She remarked, "Why me?" acknowledging that many of her colleagues are equally deserving of such recognition.

From her early experiences in South Africa to her leadership and service in Alabama, Sanghani’s path reflects not only her personal growth but also the profound impact she hopes to make within her community and the field of nursing.

Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, Sanghani moved to U.S.A. with her family after receiving her high school diploma in Johannesburg. She received her first degree in Biomedical Sciences from Auburn and chose to enter the healthcare field to gain hands-on experience and better understand her career goals. Her first job was as a medical assistant role at an outpatient cardiovascular facility.

“I received mentorship from a nurse practitioner whose commitment and empathy made a lasting impression on me,” Sanghani said. “I was moved by his patient care and the deep appreciation his patients showed him. Even with his advanced position, he remained grounded in his roots as a nurse. Thanks to him — and the support of physicians, nurses, and fellow assistants — I discovered a sense of community. Their encouragement and example inspired me to pursue nursing school.”

According to Sanghani, AUCON offers a wide range of clinical experiences in diverse settings, enabling students to gain a comprehensive understanding of nursing practice. “Simulation exercises enable students to integrate theoretical knowledge and prepare for scenarios likely encountered within hospital settings. These activities fostered a supportive environment for reflecting on the complexities and emotional challenges of nursing. They established a supportive environment for thoughtful discussion regarding potential challenges. The faculty consistently demonstrated commitment by offering guidance throughout the educational journey.”

Her participation in the Dedicated Education Unit (DEU) program allowed for concentrated clinical exposure at a single hospital which fostered familiarity with the institution's culture and staff. She credits clinical instruction under Mrs. Willis in encouraging her to explore specific interests, particularly in cardiology.

“I am grateful for the meaningful relationships formed within my cohort. We fostered a supportive environment, encouraging one another through successes and setbacks, and remained united in our dedication and resilience. Beyond academia, I actively volunteer at the B.A.P.S. Hindu temple in Montgomery, where my service strengthens my connection to Alabama’s local communities — a perspective that informs my approach to patient care. My spiritual teacher has served as a guiding influence, demonstrating that true fulfillment is attained through service to others and contributing to their well-being.

“Looking ahead, I plan to keep volunteering in my community, believing that meaningful change frequently starts with small acts of service. Additionally, I intend to advance my education and pursue a career as a nurse practitioner. In this position, I aim to offer empathetic care to people who lack insurance or are reluctant to seek medical help.

“The culture at AUCON will always stay with me. Being part of an environment where everyone was motivated by a sense of purpose—working hard to become outstanding nurses for their communities—truly shaped my experience. The commitment shown by my fellow students and the impressive accomplishments of my professors were uplifting and motivating. I feel grateful to have been in a place that encouraged ongoing growth and learning,” she added.

After graduation, she hopes to work in a Cardiovascular ICU to continue fueling her passion for the heart. “I plan to take advantage of every opportunity to learn and grow within my work environment — whether that means teaching as a clinical instructor, obtaining advanced certifications, or taking on leadership roles such as being a charge nurse or manager. Eventually, I aspire to become a nurse practitioner.”

Looking ahead, Sanghani remains committed to lifelong learning and meaningful service. She is determined to make a positive impact both inside and outside the hospital, guided by her passion, her mentors, and the spirit of the AUCON community. With a heart dedicated to caring for others, Sanghani is ready to embrace every challenge and opportunity that lies ahead — continuing her journey to serve, inspire, and lead as a nurse.
