The annual Research Symposium was held on March 26 in the Melton Student Center, followed by an awards ceremony on April 2. Undergraduate and graduate students and post-doctoral researchers from various colleges presented their research and scholarly discoveries through oral and poster presentations.

Nursing students, Leticia Raymundi-Pinheiro and Kendall McCallum, won 1st and 3rd place respectively, in the University-Wide Undergraduate Student Awards in Human Sciences, Social Studies, Creative Arts, Nursing, and Humanities category.

Raymundi-Pinheiro’s research entitled Enhancing Preconception Care Awareness to Improve Maternal Health Outcomes in Marginalized Communities won 1st place. Her work, which concentrates on reducing health disparities, was guided by nursing faculty members Amy Pridemore, Katilya Ware, Claire Thompson, and Sarah Watts.

McCallum, mentored by Katilya Ware and Ann Lambert, won 3rd place. Her oral presentation focused on The Impact of Perinatal Anxiety and Depression on Breastfeeding Practices Among Women Using Doula and Midwifery Services.

Other College-level winners, also mentored by nursing faculty members, included David Murray, mentored by Drew Frugé, for his poster on Gritty Associations Among Psychosocial Characteristics and Health Behaviors of Undergraduate Nursing Students: A cross-sectional study. Madison Beavers, guided by Christine Feeley, won for her research on Pediatric Type 1 Diabetes Management Across the Lifespan. AUCON students made an impressive contribution to the Symposium. In addition to our winners, Katherine Bailey, whom Joy DeBellis and Caitlin Moore co-mentored, examined The Factors Influencing College Students' Reporting of Adverse Reactions to Antidepressants, and Nora Heeney, mentored by Seth Perry, presented on Safe Space at Auburn. Mia Jensen, mentored by Linda Gibson-Young, presented on Advancing Cardiovascular Health in Underserved Alabama Communities Through Self-Monitoring and Community Interventions, Anthony Espinal, COSAM student mentored by Sarah Watts, presented a poster on Linguistic Landscape in Auburn Opelika: Mapping Diversity and Accessibility, and Fiona Washburn, supported by Andrea Smith, analyzed the link between pre-anesthesia blood pressure and post anesthesia complications.
