Assistant Clinical Professor, Chris Martin has been promoted to Lieutenant in the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps (USPHS) and now serves as a Nurse Officer. "This promotion affirms my commission and oath of office as a commissioned officer," stated Martin. "It motivates me personally to continue setting and achieving goals. The dedication to continuous learning and pursuing opportunities for both personal and professional growth were key factors in attaining this promotion."

Martin pointed out that a significant challenge in public health is the inconsistency of funding sources and insufficient awareness of the sector's role in safeguarding national health and safety. He stated, "As an officer in the United States Public Health Service (USPHS), I continuously seek opportunities to promote awareness about the Corps and our work."

As a lieutenant, Martin intends to leverage the new position to positively influence public health and the community. "I aim to continue pursuing opportunities to exemplify community engagement and public service for my students and fellow nurses."

Martin anticipates the forthcoming opportunities to fulfil leadership responsibilities alongside his fellow commissioned officers in both training and deployment capacities.

Martin mentioned that he plans to mentor new reserve officers as they begin their service with the US Public Health Service. He advises those interested in a career in the Public Health Service Corps to keep open communication with their chain of command and seek feedback for professional and personal development as clinicians and officers.

Martin intends to tackle health challenges pertaining to public health service workers and seeks to gain a deeper understanding of how to effectively advocate for public health matters within underserved communities.
