AUCON students and staff recently participated in a Birthday Party Program for seniors at the Legacy Center in Shorter, Ala. The event celebrating and educating Alabama’s seniors, was jointly sponsored by the AU College of Nursing, the Town of Shorter – Alabama, The Alabama Extension Systems, Tuskegee University, Legal Services Alabama, South Central Alabama Development Commission.
Organizers celebrated seniors (ages 55 and up) celebrating birthdays from September through December where they learned about healthcare benefits, free attorney services, fraud awareness (how to protect your money) and getting through the month (how to stretch your check). Several AUCON students and staff member Abby Bell were on hand to conduct free blood pressure and blood glucose screenings.
