College is an exciting time for students as they navigate through decision making and finding resources to make a successful transition to employment. To help them through this process, AU School of Nursing’s Development Office, in conjunction with the Auburn Alumni Association, recently held a speed brunch, an in-person event that brings AU nursing alumni and third semester students together for face-to-face conversations in a casual environment. College alumni can be a great resource for networking and building relationships. Over 100 third semester students attended the event and left with new contacts and tangible tips that they can use to assist with their career decisions.

Alumni representing different specializations were present at the brunch. Alumni occupations represented Family Nurse Practitioner (U.S. Navy); EAMC Education, Clinical Research Program Director (Grandview Medical Center), NICU RN (UAB Hospital), Legacy of Hope (Organ Donation), District Epidemiologist (Gwinnett-Newton-Rockdale County Health Departments), CRNA, Peds RNA, ED nurse, radiologist, Associate Dean (DNP Program at Vanderbilt), Neuro ICU, pre-, post-surgery (UAB), and labor and delivery (UAB).

Our alumni serve many valuable roles, such as helping students in their career choice and opening avenues for them. The round-robin arrangement had the alumni changing table every 15 minutes to speak with different groups of students. By bringing students together with these alumni, students got first-hand information about their particular careers and specializations available in the field. Students got the opportunity to hear advice from Auburn Nursing alumni and about their college experiences that prepared them for success.
