Dr. Danielle Larkin was featured on the cover of the August 2021 (Volume 23, Issue 4) of the Journal of Hospice and Palliative Nursing (JHPN) as the “Face of HPNA”. The journal is the professional, peer-reviewed publication for nurses in hospice and palliative care settings. JHPN offers current and reliable information on end-of-life nursing, focusing on the clinical, educational and research aspects of care.

Larkin, who joined AUSON in January 2021, teaches pharmacology and fundamentals. She received a dual master’s-doctoral degree from the University of Alabama in Birmingham in 2020. She worked as an infection preventionist at Encompass Health Lakeshore Rehabilitation Hospital where she worked in inpatient oncology, palliative care and hospice. Her research work has been published in JHPN, and she hopes to write more on symptom management and decreasing health disparities within hospice and palliative nursing.

The Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association was established in 1986 and is the national professional organization that represents the specialty of palliative nursing, which includes hospice and palliative nurses. The association supports the profession through education programs, research initiatives, and advocacy.
