A Tool for Comparative Analysis of Prioritized Building Revitalization in Urban America
What are you researching?
I am researching a way to assess buildings using a modular rating system. This tool allows the user to understand a structure's function and community contribution in any way that is desired, such as how it conforms to sustainability standards and constructability standards along with historic or civic significance.
How could the results benefit individuals, agencies or companies?
The results can assist individuals and companies looking to assess and estimate costs to renovate a building with specific goals in mind, as well as evaluating entire towns to provide an estimate to rehabilitate entire communities. I demonstrated options for implementation at different investment levels to make the most impact through my research.
Why do you enjoy research?
I enjoy research because it allows for freedom in exploration of an interest. I believe this freedom contributes to more thorough work as well.
What advice would you give to other students considering doing a research project?
I would encourage students considering doing a research project to try it out and see the research process, as it is different from much of student life because it is self-driven. It is rewarding to look back on the work you have done independently and have a topic that you can talk about in great detail. I found that my research became another way to market myself to employers, especially if it related to something they were working on.
Tell us about any hobbies or activities you enjoy.
I am involved in club sports, playing on the men's volleyball team at Auburn. I also enjoy representing my college as a CADC Ambassador by giving tours to prospective students and their families. Beyond that, I love watching any Auburn sports, traveling and spending time outdoors with my friends.
