The Center for Clinical and Translational Science out of the University of Alabama Birmingham is seeking proposals for their Interdiscipinary Network Pilot Program. This program’s goal is to foster investigation of diseases disproportionately impacting our region, minority and special populations in the Deep South via collaboration, team science and innovative discovery. Pre-applications are due October 25th by 5PM.

Dr. Mona El-Shiekh and the Child Sleep, Health and Development Lab recently published a paper in the Journal of Adolescence. Findings suggest that improvements in sleep may be an important way to reduce socioeconomic disparities in adolescent adjustment.

Drs. Tannista Banerjee, Veena Chattaraman & Gopikrishna Deshpande, and graduate student Hao Zou published an article in Nature Scientific Reports examining whether fiscal interventions such as rebates or lower taxes, change behavior and brain-based responses to healthy and unhealthy food choices in parents with low socioeconomic status.
