This October, the School of Nursing will kick off a project to raise awareness about safe infant sleep during the Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Awareness Month. Seth Perry, a graduate student, and Associate Clinical Professor Ann Lambert invite you to participate in a fun and friendly photo activity.
We invite parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and friends to send us images with a photo of the baby (birth to one year old, could be grandbaby, niece, nephew, sibling, friend) in or next to a safe sleep environment. These images will be posted on AU School of Nursing website, AUSON and Tiger Babies Facebook pages and Twitter accounts in conjunction with the Safe to Sleep campaign.
We ask you to be creative! Photos can be fun and humorous of babies in safe sleep environments. Although we encourage babies in Auburn onesies and Auburn clothing, it is not required. Since we will be publishing these photographs on our Facebook and Twitter, we will need you to return a signed released form. Photographs sent without a release form will not be used. Please feel free to retweet and share photos (that we post) to raise awareness about safe sleep environments, and to show off your cute babies!
If you are interested, please reply to seth.perry@childrensal.org with your photo(s) and release form(s) by September 25. Thank you, in advance, for your participation and support of safe sleep practices.
As recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics, safe sleep environments occur when infants are sleeping on their backs on a firm surface. In the caregiver's room, infants (until 6 months old, but preferably until 1 year old) should be laid on a separate sleep surface with no soft objects or loose bedding within the sleep area.
