Connie Mitchell joined AUCON in 2022. Prior to joining AUCON, Mitchell dedicated 21 years to Georgia’s Decatur County Schools as an educator, followed by nine years as the K-12 instructional mathematics coach. She also held the positions of secretary and events coordinator for a local organization, which enabled her to contribute to and engage with the community.
In May 2022, she decided to retire from her 30-year career in Georgia. “The decision about where to embark on the next chapter of my life was clear; moving to Auburn was always the plan post-retirement. Being part of the Auburn community has been truly rewarding. Auburn feels like home, from my work at the College of Nursing to my involvement in the community and church activities. There is no place quite like Auburn,” Mitchell said.
As the development coordinator for AUCON, her responsibilities include fostering a sense of purpose and commitment, aiming to make a positive impact.
“I focus on engaging donors, alumni, faculty, staff, and nursing students. Collaboration and building positive relationships within the College of Nursing, advancement team, and Auburn University are crucial, with an emphasis on acceptance, cooperation, and respect.
“By engaging in strategic planning, addressing identified needs within the College of Nursing, and understanding Auburn's broader requirements, I aim to support the success of our nursing students, faculty, and staff, as well as the reputation of AUCON and our university. I work diligently to meet and exceed set expectations with a positive attitude and a willingness to undertake necessary tasks to promote growth and success,” she stated.
Since joining AUCON, Mitchell’s responsibilities have expanded from basic tasks and providing support for development initiatives to managing complex assignments, maintaining donor relationships, and contributing to the strategic goals of the College of Nursing.
“AUCON represents a dedicated and supportive group of faculty and staff who foster a collaborative environment. There is a strong sense of community and connection, creating a familial atmosphere,” she stated.
“I take great pleasure in connecting our donors, alumni, faculty, staff, and students by coordinating events that facilitate engagement and foster meaningful relationships. Additionally, I am committed to guiding donors in understanding how their generosity significantly impacts the lives of nursing students and ultimately enhances the healthcare of our community.”
Outside of work, Mitchell loves reading, floral gardening, spending time with family, and enjoying time out in the community.
