A Community Health Fair recently took place at the War Eagle Wellness Clinic in the Boykin Community Center. The Fair provided a unique chance for patients to receive compassionate, holistic care from multiple disciplines. The event united students from Auburn University’s College of Nursing, the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine, and Harrison College of Pharmacy, who worked together to offer patient-centered care focused on improving health outcomes.
Nursing students played a key role by applying their knowledge in direct patient care, health promotion, education, advocacy, and coordination. They worked closely with other healthcare professionals to deliver patient-centered care that prioritized both physical and emotional well-being. Through IPE, nursing students not only advanced their professional development but also contributed to improving the quality of care for the individuals they served.
All students are trained to offer culturally competent care, recognizing the importance of respecting diverse health beliefs, practices, and needs. In an IPE setting, they worked together to ensure care was delivered with cultural sensitivity, promoting inclusivity and understanding. Participating in outreach through the War Eagle Wellness Clinic allows our nursing students to apply their clinical skills in real-world settings while addressing critical health disparities in rural communities. Through hands-on patient care, interdisciplinary collaboration, and culturally responsive practice, they gain invaluable experience that prepares them to be future healthcare leaders committed to health equity.
The wellness fair proved to be a win-win for everyone involved. Attendees benefit from a comprehensive approach to their health, receiving services from a team of professionals with diverse expertise. Healthcare professionals also gain experience working across disciplines, which leads to better communication, teamwork, and improved patient outcomes. Furthermore, attendees leave the fair with a deeper understanding of how to manage their health from multiple perspectives.
