Dr. Tiffani Chidume's recent achievements at the International Nursing Association of Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) conference in Raleigh, N.C., highlight her exceptional contributions to nursing education and simulation research. She received both the Academic Excellence Award and the Research Excellence Award, marking the first time an individual has won both accolades in the same year.

The Academic Excellence Award recognizes her outstanding efforts in advancing academic standards within healthcare simulation and clinical laboratories. Chidume has been noted for her innovative instructional designs and delivery methods, which incorporate the INACSL Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice™.

According to a colleague, her approach emphasizes flexibility, creativity, and responsiveness to the evolving needs of nursing education, significantly enriching the academic environment at the College of Nursing.

The Research Excellence Award is given to an INACSL member whose endeavors in simulation research has resulted in either the generation of new knowledge or the facilitation of research efforts by others. This research has yielded a significant and unrecognizable benefit to nursing and/or non-nursing simulation communities.

In addition to her instructional innovations, Dr. Chidume has made substantial contributions to simulation research, earning her the Research Excellence Award. Her pioneering work includes the development of virtual reality experiences for nursing students, funded through grants and aimed at expanding the modality and fidelity of simulation-based education. Her research efforts have not only generated new knowledge but have also influenced the broader nursing and simulation communities, exemplifying her leadership in the field.

Beyond her research and teaching roles, Dr. Chidume's impact extends to community service, student mentorship, and securing substantial research funding. Her dedication to interdisciplinary collaboration has been instrumental in improving healthcare education and practice, as evidenced by positive feedback from students and colleagues alike.

“Winning two awards in one year is a remarkable achievement and speaks volumes about her contributions to nursing simulation and learning. It's a testament to her dedication and expertise in the field,” said Dr. Pao-Feng Tsai, associate dean for research at the College of Nursing.

“It is achievements like these that truly define the extraordinary commitment Tiffani has made to our students and the entire academic community,” said Dean Gregg Newschwander. “Coming on the heels of her Distinguished Faculty Award at the College of Nursing, this has been a very exciting month. Recognized both locally and internationally is a testament for the high quality of her work and her dedication to excellence. Her achievements underscore her commitment to excellence and leadership in nursing simulation and learning, setting a high standard for future innovations in the field,” he added.
