We are thrilled to share the success of the Nursing Skills Bootcamp held at Auburn University College of Nursing (AUCON) from June 3 to 5. This transformative program was designed to equip our senior nursing students with essential skills and knowledge, ensuring a smooth transition into their preceptorships.

The intensive three-day bootcamp, lasting nearly 12 hours, focused on a wide range of critical nursing skills, including:

Women’s Health

Medical-Surgical (Med/Surg)

Critical Care

Emergency Department

Pediatrics

Conceived by Dr. Chris Martin, Assistant Clinical Professor at AUCON, the Nursing Skills Bootcamp aims to enhance the learning experience for seniors about to embark on their preceptorships. The program also welcomed recent nursing alumni, fostering a collaborative environment that promotes mentorship and professional role modeling.

A total of 82 senior-level nursing students participated in the bootcamp. Dr. Martin explained, “Each session had a different number of students as they were assigned based on their preceptorship placement.” Additionally, eight AUCON alumni supported staff and faculty members during the sessions, adding a valuable dimension of real-world experience and guidance.

Students responded positively to the bootcamp, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to refine their skills in a practical setting before starting their clinical preceptorships.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who supported the Nursing Skills Bootcamp through Tiger Giving Day 2024! Thanks to your generosity, the College of Nursing surpassed the project goal of $20,000. Your contributions will significantly benefit our senior nursing students as they prepare for their final-semester preceptorships in clinical settings.

Your investment in their education is deeply appreciated.
