Kathleen McAdory began teaching at AUCON as an assistant clinical professor this year. After a successful career in banking, she launched a second career when she received an ADN degree from Southern Union State Community College. She received an RN to BSN from AU-Montgomery through the EARN program, and a master’s degree as Nurse Educator from Auburn while working as a full-time registered nurse. “The opportunity to work alongside AUCON faculty as we prepare the next generation of nurses is an honor,” said McAdory.

McAdory will be teaching professional community and public health nursing to first-semester students as the new curriculum is implemented.

“The heart of my work is community health. A concept that involves many parts that make the whole, it encompasses the entirety of professional nursing practice. I hope to foster a love for community health and all it involves with each student I encounter. My goals are to develop their engagement in community health, stressing the importance of it becoming a lifelong part of their professional practice, encouraging them to recognize that empathy and education go hand-in-hand, fostering a culture of proactive engagement regarding disease management rather than a reactive response as is common in our culture. My research objectives include improving health literacy and enhancing health outcomes in underserved populations,” she added.

“Throughout my 11 years of experience as a professional nurse and nurse leader, I have developed an empathy for the underserved and have been exposed to the disparities across our country regarding the lack of resources and unmet needs. From preventive education, discharge planning, and palliative care, we have the opportunity to impact our patient and family lives in positive ways.”

“I strive to have a servant’s heart in all that I do, and the desire to leave a legacy of kindness and compassion will always be my goal.”
