In August, a College of Nursing student-led project will offer classes for 2 different age groups related to babysitting and caring for siblings safely. Students Caroline Hollingsworth, Reagan Norton, and Professor Ann Lambert are certified to teach the Safe Sitter courses.

“We are looking forward to this new outreach opportunity,” said Lambert.  “Our First classes will be offered this Fall with additional classes to be offered in the future.”

The Safe Sitter classes on August 27 for kids entering grades 4-8 will prepare them to be safe when they are home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting.

Students entering grades 4-6 learn how to practice safe habits, how to prevent unsafe situations, and what to do when faced with dangers such as power failures or weather emergencies. They also learn a system to help them assess and respond to injuries and illnesses. The class is from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m.

For students entering grades 6-8, life-saving skills such as helping choking victims. The class is from 3-7 p.m.
