Whitnie Willis

Assistant Clinical Professor
Whitnie Willis is an Assistant Clinical Professor at Auburn University College of Nursing and a nurse scientist specializing in evidence-based practice, writing-enriched and concept-driven learning, and clinical innovation. Her work advances the ethical integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in undergraduate nursing education and prepares the healthcare workforce for AI-enabled clinical environments, with an emphasis on human-centered care. She teaches Evidence-Based Practice, Wellness in Aging (interdisciplinary), and Writing for the Professional Nurse, where she designs writing-enriched, concept-driven learning experiences that strengthen students’ ability to think critically, evaluate evidence, and translate knowledge into practice. Her teaching emphasizes applying evidence to real-world clinical decision-making and preparing students to engage with emerging technologies in thoughtful and responsible ways. She is particularly interested in preparing clinicians to engage with AI in ways that are ethical, evidence-informed, and grounded in human-centered care. Her scholarship advances age-friendly, gerontology-informed education and explores strategies to improve quality of life for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias and their caregivers, with a focus on stress, resilience, and accessible interventions in rural and underserved communities. She earned an Associate Degree in Nursing from Houston Community College, a BSN and an MSN in Nursing Education from The University of Texas at Arlington, and is currently pursuing a PhD in Nursing at Auburn University. She is a member of the Alabama State Nurses Association, the Gerontological Society of America, OpenAI Forum, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, the Southern Gerontological Society, and the Southern Nursing Research Society.
