Erin Thornton

Assistant Clinical Professor
Erin earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Columbus State University in 2011. She began her nursing career on a medical surgical pediatric unit at the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters in Norfolk, Virginia. Accompanying her military husband to Pensacola, Florida, Erin then stepped into Pediatric Critical Care at the Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Sacred Heart in Pensacola as a staff nurse in the PICU in 2014. While there, Erin completed her Master of Nursing in Education and helped develop a Celebration of Life ceremony to honor the lives of children at the pediatric hospital. This development was the first of its kind supporting bereaved families as well as the clinical staff who helped care for pediatric patients. Erin and her family moved back home where Erin joined the Pediatric Emergency Department at Piedmont Columbus Regional, in Columbus Georgia in 2017. In her time at Piedmont, Erin served as a staff nurse as well as became the first Unit Based Educator for the Pediatric Emergency Department. After some time, Erin was offered an opportunity in leadership and became the Manager of the Level 2 Adult Emergency and Trauma Center at Piedmont Columbus Regional. Erin is a certified Pediatric Nurse. Erin joined Auburn College of Nursing as a full-time faculty in April of 2022. Her subject of teaching at the College of Nursing is pediatric critical care.
