Sarah Walls Howell
Asst Clinical Prof
Sarah W. Howell, DNP, RN, is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Auburn University College of Nursing. She teaches Concepts of Pathopharmacology for Simple and Stable Conditions and Evidence-Based Practice in the traditional BSN program, as well as Leadership and Management in Professional Nursing in the RN-BSN program.
Dr. Howell is a dedicated nurse educator whose teaching philosophy centers on helping students connect foundational nursing knowledge to clinical practice through active learning, evidence-based inquiry, and the development of sound clinical judgment. Her professional interests include nursing education, leadership development, and innovative teaching strategies that promote student engagement and practice readiness.
Prior to joining Auburn University, Dr. Howell served as nursing faculty at Southern Union State Community College, where she taught in classroom, clinical, simulation, and leadership settings for more than twelve years. Her clinical background includes ICU step-down, home health nursing, and in-home hospice care providing a broad foundation for preparing future nurses to deliver safe, patient-centered care across diverse healthcare environments.
Dr. Howell earned her Associate Degree in Nursing from Southern Union State Community College, her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing from Jacksonville State University, and her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from American Sentinel University. She is an active member of the Alabama Nurses Association, the American Nurses Association, and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.
