Tanya Johnson
Associate Clinical Professor
TANYA JOHNSON, MSN, RN, NE-BC is an Associate Clinical Professor Auburn University College of Nursing and has 47 years of nursing experience. Prior to joining faculty at Auburn University College of Nursing in 2013, she served in a variety of leadership positions throughout her career within her hometown hospital in Alexander City, Al. Mrs. Johnson’s clinical experience includes emergency and obstetrical nursing, nursing administration, and as Director of Nursing for eight years prior to beginning academia. She continues to support her clinical practice at Russell Medical by working as a PRN Nursing Supervisor and teaching clinical with AUSON students.
Mrs. Johnson currently serves as course leader for traditional undergraduate and RN-BSN leadership courses. She assisted in developing the AUSON RN-BSN Online Nursing Program and currently serves as the coordinator. Mrs. Johnson has a passion for study abroad where she developed and implemented study abroad programs in Malawi, Ghana, and Spain. She participates in The Eagles Center simulation and collaborates with simulation faculty to develop and enhance various simulation scenarios. Mrs. Johnson has published and presented at local, state, national, and international conferences. Her scholarly and research interests include NCLEX success, simulation, patient safety, and healthy work environment, and teaching and learning in the online environment. Mrs. Johnson is a member of Alabama State Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau International and maintains national certification as a Nurse Executive - Board Certified. She serves on the Auburn University College of Nursing Alumni Advisory Council and the Auburn University Clinical Advisory Board in addition to various Auburn University and Auburn University College of Nursing committees.
