Tanya Looney Johnson

Associate Clinical Professor
Mrs. Tanya Johnson has served in a variety of nursing leadership positions throughout her years of professional nursing practice. Mrs. Johnson began her career as an Emergency Department staff nurse and later, nurse manager in the Emergency Department at her local hospital in Alexander City, Alabama. Since that time, she has served as nurse manager of Women and Children’s Services in addition to over ten years as Director of Nursing Supervisors. She maintained responsibility as the Director of Nursing during the previous nine years prior to joining the Auburn University College of Nursing in 2013. While her entire nursing career was at Russell Medical in Alexander City, her long-term goal was to teach nursing. Mrs. Johnson's responsibilities as an Assistant Clinical Professor began in August 2013 at Auburn University College of Nursing. She was promoted to Associate Clinical Professor four years later. Mrs. Johnson served as course leader for the traditional senior level leadership courses in addition to clinical instruction related to Leadership, Women’s Health, and Fundamentals. Mrs. Johnson was instrumental in the development and implementation of the AUCON RN-BSN online program, which began in 2017, and has served as NURS 3840 course leader since that time. Publications and presentations over the past 12 years have been related to NCLEX Success, Interprofessional Practice, International Partnerships, Professional Role Development, and Teaching Leadership Through Simulation. Mrs. Johnson developed and participated in AUCON study abroad programs in Malawi, Ghana, Seville, and Pamplona, Spain. She is retired from full-time and currently serves as part-time faculty, teaching in the RN-BSN program and participating in AUCON simulation and lab experiences.
