Griffin , a rising Senior in the College of Human Sciences, has been awarded a 2015-2016 AU-Cellular and Molecular Biosciences program Undergraduate Summer Research Scholar to conduct research in the Greene Laboratory in the Summer of 2015. Congratulations Griffin!

Jami Reese, a rising Senior in the College of Sciences and Mathematics, has been awarded a 2015-2016 Undergraduate Research Fellowship to conduct research in the Greene Laboratory in the Summer of 2015. Congratulations Jami!

Dr. Greene gave oral presentation at the 8th Annual Boshell Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases Research Day held at Auburn University. The conference program including abstracts can be found here.

 

July 2014

Dr Boosinger, Auburn University Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs, has approved the appointment of Dr. Greene as Director of the Auburn University Metabolic Phenotyping Laboratory (AUMPL). The AUMPL has been established in the College of Veterinary Medicine animal facility.

 

June 2014

Dr. Greene and Yuwen Luo attended the American Diabetes Association 74th Scientific Sessions in San Francisco, CA between June 13-17th. Yuwen Luo gave an poster presentation titled “Sugary Water Consumption Leads to Adipose, Liver, and Metabolic Dysfunction in a Western Diet-Induced Model of NAFLD”.

Dr. Greene attended the Sable Systems Respirometry Course held in Las Vegas, NV. Dr. Greene has now been trained in the use of Promethion metabolic cages and metabolic phenotyping analysis. More information on the Promethion metabolic cages can be found on the Sable Systems, Inc. website.

 

May 2014

The Greene Laboratory attended the 5th Annual University of Alabama Birmingham Diabetes Research Day in Birmingham, AL on May 7th. Yuwen Luo gave an oral presentation titled “Adipose and Metabolic Dysfunction in a Western Diet-Induced Model of NAFLD”. Dr. O'Neill presented a poster titled "Obesity Induced Insulin Resistance Contributes to Increased Tumor Growth in a Mouse Model of Human Colon Cancer". Dr. Jian "Albert" Zhang accepted a post doctoral position at Texas A&M University in the lab of Dr. Choudhury. Good luck Albert.

Alex Cool, a rising Junior in the College of Sciences and Mathematics, has been awarded a 2014-2015 Undergraduate Research Fellowship to conduct research in the Greene Laboratory in the Spring of 2015. Congratulations Alex!

Feb 2014

Dr. Greene in collaboration with Drs. Judd, Tao, Foradori, Jeganathan, Arnold, and Hood were awarded a total of $182,078 for the purchase of Promethion metabolic cages from Sable Systems, Inc. Funding was obtained through the Auburn University Internal Grant Program, Auburn University Research Initiative in Cancer, the College of Human Sciences, the College of Veterinary Medicine, the Harrison School of Pharmacy, and College of Sciences and Mathematics.

 

Aug 2013

Welcome Michael Wayne, a graduate student from Texas Tech. Michael will be pursuing a Masters Degree in Nutrition.

Drs. Greene and O'Neill attended the inaugural Metabolic Signaling and Disease: from cells to organisms meeting at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in Cold spring Harbor, NY from Aug 13th to 17th. Dr. Ann Marie O'Neill presented a poster titled "Obesity induced insulin resistance contributes to increased tumor growth in a mouse model of human colon cancer". Dr. Greene presented a poster titled "Development and characterization of a novel congenic rat strain for obesity and cancer research".

The Greene Lab has been awarded a $50,000 AAES Young Investigator Program grant from the USDA for the proposal entitled "RNA profiling to determine the role of sugar in obesity-linked non-alcoholic fatty liver disease progression".

The Greene Lab has been awarded a $20,000 AURIC Seed Grant from the Auburn University for the proposal entitled "Orthotopic Models of Human Colon Cancer".

 

March 2013

Drs. Greene and O'Neill and Yuwen Luo gave oral presentations at the 6th Annual Boshell Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases Research Day held at Auburn University. The conference program including abstracts can be found here.

 

A patent titled "Rodent having predisposition to obesity" was submitted to the USPTO with Dr. Greene listed as the sole inventor.

The invention relates to an animal model of obesity. This animal model has the capacity to accept human cancer. Thus, the animal model provided therein can be used to investigate human cancer and other conditions associated with obesity.

 Undergraduate Research

Dr. Greene will run an Honors Research Seminar course in the Spring 2017 semester focused on Obesity-related research.

The course will make use of state-of-the-art instrumentation to examine the role of sugary drinks in obesity-linked chronic disease.
