Minutes for the Meeting on June 20, 2018

Call to Order:Meeting called to order by Charleen Thomas.
Guest speaker Jason Harbison from Trademark Management & Licensing was introduced.
- Trademark Management & Licensing works with products in retail (AU Bookstore, Academy Sports, etc.).
- There are 492 AU licensees and 4,226 retailers that sell AU merchandise.
- Proceeds from logo sales go toward student scholarships.
- This year is the 75th anniversary of the Creed. There will be a Creed emphasis at retail.
Roll call of Representatives conducted by Tammy Williams.
Elections for Steering Committee were held. There were four open seats. Three candidates spoke and were approved, one seat still need to be filled this year:
Ginger Vedder, Risk Management & Safety
Penny Houston, Human Resources
Lauren Einhorn, School of Kinesiology
Elections for Chair-Elect were held. There were two candidates:
Kim Brumbeloe, Engineering Outreach Cont. Ed
Jason Amling, Landscape Service
Kim Brumbeloe was elected Chair-Elect for 18-19.
The new bereavement policy went into effect on May 1, 2018. Employees are now eligible for 4 hours of supervisor approved leave to attend a funeral of an AU employee or retired AU employee.
The hardship fund has raised $9,485.04 since its inception. Each approved employee is eligible for $1,000-$2,000 per request. The fund needs to have $20,000 at all times to cover costs. We need Staff Council members to help to raise awareness and encourage donations from our coworkers to sustain the fund.
Today was Althea Tate’s last Staff Council meeting. Tammy Williams will become Chair of Staff Council on July 1, 2018.
New Staff Council representatives were announced: Mark Elswick, Tamika Radford, Kimberly Ford, Zandra Davis, Kimberly McCadden, Cory O’Neal, Anthony Walker, Michael Large.
Door prize drawing was held.
Staff Council Professional Development Day will be held again next year.
