The School of Nursing has selected Sophie Brint, 4th semester student, to receive Auburn University’s prestigious President’s Award for 2020. This award is presented to one graduating senior from each college with a GPA above 3.4 who possess outstanding qualities of leadership, citizenship, character and promise of professional ability.

A graduate of Mountain Brook High School in Birmingham, Sophie Brint enrolled in AUSON in the fall of 2018. “When I stepped onto Auburn’s campus for a tour, I witnessed the Auburn Family phenomenon I had heard so much about but never understood,” said Brint. “As I walked past, engaged with, and observed Auburn students, I could see a joy and unity among the student body which I quickly realized I wanted to be a part of. Four years later, I can confidently and gratefully say that choosing Auburn was one of the best decisions of my life. As the first person in my family to go to Auburn, I’m honored to be the trailblazer.”

As a high school student exploring occupations, she realized that nursing, more than most career paths, offered a tangible way to couple serving others as the hands and feet of Christ with actively using science-minded critical thinking.

“In addition to equipping students with the skills needed for professional success, Auburn simultaneously refines you as an individual and highlights what it means to care for your fellow man. The value of the human touch Auburn instills in its students distinguishes them in the professional work force and allows them to succeed in ways that transcend typical occupational success. My professors and peers have helped me see this principle clearly and encouraged me to step confidently into a new season of life after graduation ready to work hard and serve others.”

During her stint in Auburn, Brint served as a violinist for her church and at various events on campus, represented the Auburn School of Nursing as a student ambassador, held several positions within SGA, invested in a social sorority, and was part of the Student Nursing Association. In addition to her commitment to all these organizations, she found time to volunteer with organizations such as IMPACT and East Alabama Food Bank and spend time in Spain through Auburn Study Abroad.

Associate Clinical Professor, Dr. Valarie Thomas, stated that Brint definitely deserves the award. “A well-respected student, she carries herself well and is respectful to the faculty and her peers. Her one outstanding quality is her compassion, concern and love for others.”

Please join the faculty, staff and students of the School of Nursing to congratulate Sophie Brint on her richly deserved 2020 President’s Award.
