The Auburn Research Magazine, published by the Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development, has just released its Fall 2021 issue. Among other interesting articles, it features the research of Dr. Tiffani Chidume on Caring for America’s Aging Population.

As adults are living longer, the number of Americans ages 65 and older is expected to reach 80 million by 2040. The number of adults ages 85 and older, the group most often needing help with basic personal care, will nearly quadruple by 2040. According to Chidume, falls are the leading cause of fatal and nonfatal injury among older adults.

The purpose of her research was to implement a fall prevention toolkit, or FPT, for adults 65 and older who attended mobile Interprofessional Education, or IPE, community clinics. Read more about it here.
