Meet “Miller” and “Choa” – canines in the School of Nursing’s animal-assisted therapy program, CAREing Paws (Canines Assisting Rehabilitation and Education) — on March 11, 2016, at the 2016 Dean’s Golf Outing, where you can support a dedicated area for them in the school’s new building.

CAREing Paws provides an extraordinary service-learning experience for Auburn’s nursing students as one of the few, if not the only, nursing school-based animal-assisted therapy programs of its kind in the nation. As part of their participation in CAREing Paws, our nursing students have the opportunity to learn about animal-assisted therapy through both classroom teaching and hands-on clinical experiences.  Students witness the positive benefits animal-assisted therapy holds for children with chronic illnesses, adults in nursing homes and medical centers, and individuals diagnosed with mental health issues.

Miller and Choa’s dedicated space in the new School of Nursing building will be just one component of the new 87,000 square foot facility, which will serve as the gateway building to the new Auburn’s newly developed Health Sciences Sector. Nearly eight times larger and more efficiently designed than our current space in Miller Hall, the new building will enable the school to increase access to a nursing degree and the nursing industry’s future workforce by accommodating more students, as well as add additional faculty positions and expand its portfolio of academic, clinical research, and community outreach programs, such as CAREing Paws.
